fall mushroom workshops 2019

new! intro to mushroom ID

Sunday, September 15th, 2019
9am - 12pm
-location accessible by transit within Vancouver-
Registration is closed - email for enquiries

Unlike our usual full-day structure, we won't be harvesting any mushrooms on this workshop. It is meant to introduce curious minds to the basics of mushroom morphology. A short walk around a city park, this will be a great primer for the full-day workshops or as an alternative for those with accessibility or time limitations. Children welcome.

warm(er) weather mushrooms

September 28, 2019
9am - 5pm
SOLD OUT - waitlist full

Learn about which mushrooms thrive in late summer and early fall. Meet characters like chicken of the woods, lobster, and several species of agaricus and boletus. Note the role they play in ecology, how they operate to help other members in their guilds, and how to harvest them in a way that encourages them to return healthier and more  prolific.

the cornucopia: harvest for thanksgiving

October 12, 2019
9am to 5pm
SOLD OUT - waitlist full

Fully into fall now, October is when the Cornucopia really begins to overflow with mushrooms in the PNW. Such a diversity of fungi require important attention to details - is it a polypore or agaric? Basidiomycetes or Ascomycetes?  Edible or Deadly? Begin to ask these questions and study the morphology of mushrooms on this workshop. Deepen your practice of giving gratitude this by sharing this harvest at a Thanksgiving or otherwise meaningful meal.

autumn mushrooms part three

October 20, 2019
830am to 430pm
SOLD OUT
waitlist full

Cooler weather mushrooms like 'the Gypsy' excite our sense of smell and critical analysis (ie. why do we have racist names attached to mushrooms?). Let's get deep when thinking about mushrooms - not only studying the science surrounding them, but also the social, economic, and magickal elements that play into their meanings and uses. Of course, we will be identifying and doing all the great science-y, hands-on stuff too.

autumn mushrooms part four
the winter is coming - 2019

The last public workshops of the season. We will draw the workshops to a close with some mushroom broth and spreading spores. These workshops will be very cold so wear your layers and be prepared to learn what to do when you find frozen and cold-loving mushrooms like winter chanterelles, bellybutton hedgehogs, and jelly tooth fungus.
